Balancing the demands of full-time work with the challenges of being a single parent to a child with special needs, Alyssa demonstrates what it means to persevere. “There are days when I feel stretched to my limit, but I remind myself that showing up—for my daughter and for myself—is what matters most,” Alyssa shares.

Fitness became her lifeline, helping her stay grounded and show up fully for her daughter. “Exercise is my reset button. It helps me find strength when I need it most,” Alyssa explains. For those who participate in races, registration fees can be costly, making the Activity Sponsorship benefit especially meaningful. Alyssa is deeply grateful for the Activity Sponsorship benefit.

After completing four half marathons this year, Alyssa felt ready for a new challenge and decided to register for the 2025 Long Beach Marathon. Just a month before the race, Alyssa struggled to keep up with her training plan due to the demands of motherhood and the developmental regressions her daughter was experiencing. Despite feeling physically and mentally unprepared, she followed through.

Not only did Alyssa finish her first marathon strong, meeting her goal of four hours and 30 minutes, but she also created lasting memories. Crossing that finish line wasn’t just a personal victory for Alyssa—it was a celebration of resilience, love, and the power of showing up.
